Police have arrested a 59-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of Outrage of Modesty on board a public bus.

 

2         On 21 November 2014 at about 3.48pm, the 23-year-old female victim reported to the Police that she was molested by a man while they were travelling in the bus towards Ang Mo Kio Bus Interchange. The victim subsequently lodged a police report. Following the report, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division and Public Transport Security Command conducted extensive ground enquiries and viewed footages from CCTVs. Their efforts paid off when they managed to establish the identity of the suspect and arrested him on 6 January.

 

3         The suspect will be charged in Court on 8 January 2015. For the offence of Outrage of Modesty under Section 354(1) of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, the suspect may be jailed up to 2 years, or fined and also be liable to caning, upon conviction.

 

4      Members of public are advised to stay calm when they encounter such crimes while travelling on public transport.  They should call ‘999’ at once or inform the bus/train captain or seek help from other commuters immediately to report the matter.
