Singapore Disaster Victim Identification Team Returns From Indonesia

The Singapore Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) team, comprising eight officers from the Singapore Police Force (SPF), and two forensic experts from the Health Sciences Authority (HSA), has returned home on 18 January 2015. The team, led by Assistant Commissioner Sekher Warrier, was received by the Commissioner of Police, Mr Hoong Wee Teck and Dr Paul Chui, Chief Forensic Medicine of HSA, at Changi Airport Terminal 2 earlier today.

The DVI Team had left for Surabaya, Indonesia on 3 January 2015 and had assisted the Indonesian authorities in the DVI efforts over the past two weeks.

At the welcome ceremony, CP thanked the team and said, “We assisted where we can and supported our Indonesian counterparts in the disaster victim identification process following this unfortunate incident. I want to thank the officers for their efforts and personal sacrifices as the deployment was at short notice. We offer our deepest condolences to the families of the victims and we hope that our contributions to the DVI process can help bring closure to this tragic incident for some of the families.” CP also expressed his gratitude to the families of the team for their understanding and strong support during the team’s deployment in Indonesia.
