On 28 January 2015, officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) raided 16 shops in Little India and arrested 11 men, aged between 27 and 46, for their suspected involvement in the sales and distribution of counterfeit mobile phones and accessories.
A total of about 12,900 counterfeit mobile phones and accessories with an estimated street value of about $600,000 were seized. Investigations are ongoing.
Persons found guilty of selling or distributing infringing goods with falsely applied trade mark may be fined up to a maximum of $100,000, or an imprisonment term which may extend to five years, or both.
