Police have arrested three men, aged between 22 and 24, for their suspected involvement in a series of break-ins committed at coffeeshops and eateries located in industrial estates islandwide.

 

2          On 14 April 2015, Police received a report on a case of break-in at a coffeeshop located within an industrial estate along Marsiling Road where cash, cigarettes and drinks were stolen. Police also received reports on several similar cases of break-in at coffeeshops and eateries located in other industrial estates in Penjuru, Marsiling and Tai Seng.

 

3          Sensing a commonality in the series of cases, officers from the Jurong, Clementi, and Ang Mo Kio Police Divisions coordinated their extensive investigations to establish the identities of the suspects. The officers arrested the three suspects following a six-hour operation conducted on 28 April 2015. Police also seized some of cigarettes, which are believed to stolen.

 

4          Two of the suspects, aged 23 and 24, will be charged in Court on 30 April 2015 for Housebreaking and Theft by Night with Common intention under Section 457 read with Section 34 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224 which is punishable with imprisonment for a term of up to 14 years and a fine. The other 22-year-old suspect will be charged in Court on the same day for Dishonestly Receiving Stolen Property which is punishable with imprisonment for a term of up to 5 years and a fine.
