The Police are investigating a 28-year-old man who is believed to have lodged a false report.

On 7 March 2020 at about 1.35am, the man lodged a report alleging that he was robbed by a group of 3 unknown men at Sungei Kadut Loop Industrial Estate.

During the course of investigations, officers from Woodlands Police Division followed up on the case and detected many inconsistencies in the man’s account. Preliminary investigations suggest that he had provided false information to the Police by claiming he had been a victim of robbery.

Investigation against the man is ongoing. The offence of giving any information which he or she knows to be false to a public servant carries an imprisonment term which may extend to one year, or a fine which may extend to $5,000, or with both.

The Police would like to remind the public that police resources could have been put to better use in dealing with real crimes and emergencies than investigating into false reports or false information. Those who lodge false Police reports or provide false information will face serious consequences under the law.
