Five Individuals Presented With Public Spiritedness Awards, One Individual And One Organisation Presented With Community Partnership Awards

On 7 January 2022, Clementi Police Division presented the Public Spiritedness Award to five members of the public. One staff and one organisation were also commended for their strong community partnership with the Police.


Cases Commended for Public Spiritedness Award

On 7 May 2021, Mr Wong Meng Wei spotted a man who allegedly positioned a mobile phone under a woman’s skirt on the escalator at Harbourfront MRT station. He saw flashes from a man’s mobile phone and immediately alerted the woman. At the same time, Mr Wong confronted the man and attempted to detain him. His action led to the swift arrest of the man for voyeurism.

On 13 May 2021, a woman was onboard a train towards Jurong East MRT station when a man suddenly purportedly came in front of her and almost sat on her. However, the woman managed to push him away. During the trip, the man allegedly moved very close to her and leaned his head on her shoulder. The woman was shocked and quickly moved to the opposite seat. When the man alighted at Lakeside MRT station, the woman sought help from Mr Loke Kwong Wah, who was at the platform. He managed to stop and detain the man before calling the Police. The man was subsequently arrested for outrage of modesty.

On 10 June 2021, Ms Goh Ee Ca saw that a man had allegedly taken upskirt photo of a woman and fled towards the carpark in IMM. Ms Goh quickly informed the security officer, who was nearby. The security team had assisted to keep a lookout for the man in the vicinity. The man was spotted and detained by one of the security officers near the mall entrance. This led to the arrest of the man for voyeurism.

On 11 June 2021, Ms Nur Ain Aqila had noticed  that there were two persons behaving suspiciously in a store at IMM and notified the store manager. While the store manager was approaching the group the two persons were with, the group noticed and quickly fled from the store. With the help from Ms Nur Ain and her friends, the store manager managed to chase after the group. Four persons were detained and subsequently arrested for shop theft.

On 24 September 2021, Mr Wong Sze Soong was jogging at Pandan Reservoir when he spotted a woman walking into the reservoir. Mr Wong immediately sprang into action, entered the waters and pulled the female subject out to safety. His vigilance and selflessness had helped to prevent a loss of life.


Case Commended for Community Partnership Award (Individual)

On 12 April 2021, the Police received several reports that the stalls from Bukit Merah View Food Centre were broken into and valuables were missing. Mr Anthony Teo, who is currently a committee member of the Bukit Merah View Merchants and Hawker Committee, immediately came down to assist the affected stall owners and the Police. He provided crucial information to the Police, leading to the arrest of the man for theft in dwelling.


Organisation Commended for Community Partnership Award

With reference to the case mentioned in Paragraph 4, the security team of Capitaland in IMM Building was highlighted for their quick response, resulting in the arrest of a man for Voyeurism on 10 June 2021.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (AC) Marc E, Commander of Clementi Police Division, expressed his appreciation to the award recipients for their public spiritedness in making our community a safer and more secure place to live in, and partnership with the Police. He said, “Crime is more likely solved and criminals are more likely deterred, if public-spiritedness is strong and widespread. The public-spiritedness and partnership with the Police displayed by these individuals and organisations are commendable. Their actions are exemplary to the rest of our community.”
