The Police have arrested eight male teenagers and one man, aged between 13 and 24, for their suspected involvement in a case of rioting armed with a deadly weapon.
On 2 September 2022 at about 8.45pm, the Police were alerted to a case of assault along Lengkok Bahru. Preliminary investigations revealed that a 15-year-old male victim was allegedly assaulted by a group of assailants armed with knives, over a prior dispute. The victim suffered multiple injuries and was conveyed conscious to the hospital.
Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from Police cameras, officers from Criminal Investigation Department and Clementi Police Division arrested nine persons between 3 and 8 September 2022. Knives, which were believed to have been used during the incident, were seized as case exhibits.
The eight male teenagers and man have been charged in court on 3, 6 and 9 September 2022 with rioting armed with a deadly weapon under Section 148 of the Penal Code 1871. The offence of rioting armed with a deadly weapon carries an imprisonment term of up to 10 years and caning. Police investigations are ongoing.
The Police will spare no effort to apprehend such offenders and deal with them in accordance with the law.
