Khong Siak Meng David (“David Khong”), a 55-year-old Singapore citizen who was wanted for 15 years, has been arrested. He was charged in court on 24 September 2022.
David Khong was a practising lawyer and the sole proprietor of the firm, David Khong & Associates. Allegations that he had misappropriated client monies surfaced shortly after he left Singapore in August 2007. A Warrant of Arrest and an INTERPOL Red Notice were subsequently issued against him in connection with the investigations. With the cooperation and assistance of our foreign counterparts in China, David Khong returned to Singapore on 23 September 2022 and was arrested by the Commercial Affairs Department on the same day.
David Khong was charged in court on 24 September 2022 with one count of criminal breach of trust under Section 409 of the Penal Code. David Khong allegedly misappropriated $88,000 belonging to his client, which had been entrusted to him in the way of his business as an attorney. If convicted, he faces imprisonment for life, or imprisonment for a term which may extend to 10 years, and a fine. Further investigations are ongoing.
Director CAD, Mr David Chew said, “The Police will not hesitate to do whatever is necessary and permissible under Singapore law to pursue and bring justice to those who commit crimes in Singapore, regardless of when the crime was committed or where they might have fled to.
