Man Arrested For A Series Of E-Commerce Scams Involving Sale Of Electronic Goods

The Police have arrested a 45-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a series of e-commerce scams involving the sale of electronic goods.

On 8 October 2022, the Police received a report from a victim who was purportedly cheated by a seller selling electronic goods, after the seller contacted the victim to sell his items. After payment was made by the victim via Paynow, the seller delayed the delivery of the items and became uncontactable.

Through follow-up investigations, officers from Woodlands and Ang Mo Kio Police Divisions established the identity of the man and arrested him on 7 November 2022. Preliminary investigations revealed that the man is believed to be involved in at least 27 other cases of e-commerce scams amounting to more than $56,000.

The man will be charged in the court on 8 November 2022 for cheating under Section 420 of the Penal Code, which carries an imprisonment term of up to 10 years, and a fine.
