Man Arrested For Attempted Armed Robbery With Hurt Within Five Hours

The Police have arrested a 24-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of attempted armed robbery with hurt.

On 10 November 2022 at about 8.30pm, the Police were alerted to a case of robbery with hurt along 225 Mountbatten Road. A 64-year-old woman was crossing the overhead bridge when the man had purportedly approached her from the back, covered her mouth and demanded for money. Preliminary investigations revealed that a shaving blade was believed to have been used by the man during the confrontation. The woman sustained slash wounds on both her arms, and a cut on her neck, and was conveyed conscious to the hospital. The woman did not suffer any monetary loss and is currently in a stable condition.

Through ground enquiries, and with the aid of images from Police cameras and CCTV, officers from Bedok Police Division and Public Transport Security Command established the identity of the man and arrested him within five hours of the reported incident.

The man will be charged in court on 12 November 2022 for the offence of attempted armed robbery with hurt under Section 394 read with Section 397 of the Penal Code 1871. The offence carries an imprisonment term of not less than five years and not more than 20 years and with caning of not less than 12 strokes. The offence of robbery when armed under Section 397 of the Penal Code 1871 is punishable with caning of not less than 12 strokes, in addition to any other punishment to which the offender may be liable under any other section of the Penal Code 1871.

Commander of Bedok Police Division, Assistant Commissioner of Police Justin Wong commended the officers for solving the case swiftly and said, “The information provided by the victim was imperative to assisting the Police in identifying and tracking down the man before he could harm others. The Police will spare no effort to arrest those who commit such violent crimes.”

When confronted in a robbery, members of the public are advised to remain calm, take note of the physical appearance and distinctive features of the perpetrator, and call for the Police as soon as possible.
