Man Arrested For Shop Theft At Changi Airport

The Police have arrested a 45-year-old male Australian national for his suspected involvement in two cases of shop theft in the transit area of Changi Airport Terminal 1.

On 27 May 2025 at about 11.30pm, the Police were alerted to a case of shop theft at Shilla Cosmetic and Perfumes in the transit area of Changi Airport Terminal 1. Preliminary investigations revealed that the man entered the retail shop, allegedly took one bottle of facial product valued at S$466 from the display shelf and left without paying.

Through follow-up investigations and with the aid of CCTV footage, officers from Airport Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on 1 June 2025. The man is also believed to be involved in another case of shop theft which occurred on the same day at Shilla Cosmetic and Perfumes where the man had allegedly taken a bottle of perfume valued at S$193 and left without paying.

The man will be charged in court on 12 June 2025 for the offence of theft in dwelling under Section 380 of the Penal Code 1871. The offence carries an imprisonment term which may extend to seven years, or with a fine, or with both.

The Police take a serious view of shop theft cases, Offenders will be dealt with firmly in accordance with the law. The Police will continue to work closely with stakeholders and the community to prevent and deter cases of shop theft.
