The Police have arrested a 56-year-old male British national for his suspected involvement in multiple cases of shop theft committed in the transit area of Changi Airport.
On 16 July 2026 at about 9.22pm, the Police were alerted to a case of shop theft at “The Shilla Cosmetics & Perfumes” outlet located in the transit area of Changi Airport Terminal 3. Preliminary investigations revealed that the retail staff had discovered a missing item from the Chanel display shelf. Upon reviewing the CCTV footage, a man was seen taking the item and leaving the shop without paying.
Through ground enquiries and with the aid of CCTV footages, officers from the Airport Police Division swiftly established the identity of the man. Within just over an hour of the report, officers detained him in the transit area before his departure flight. Further investigation revealed that the man had allegedly committed theft from five other retail shops in Changi Airport Terminals 2 and 3, where he took various items including keychains, perfumes, and a bracelet without paying. The stolen items, with a total value of more than S$1,200, were recovered from the man’s possession.
The man will be charged in court on 18 July 2026 with the offence of theft in dwelling under Section 380 of the Penal Code 1871. The offence carries an imprisonment term of up to seven years, a fine, or both.
The Police take a serious view of shop theft cases and offenders will be dealt with firmly in accordance with the law. The Police will continue to work closely with stakeholders and the community to prevent and deter cases of shop theft.
