The Police will be charging a 32-year-old Indonesian man in court on 29 August 2026 for carrying an offensive weapon at Changi Airport.

On 27 August 2026 at about 1.10pm, Police were alerted to a case of a male passenger concealing a knife in his high cut shoe at Terminal 4 Departure Centralised Screening area.  Preliminary investigations revealed that the man had concealed a knife measuring 19.5cm in length, with a 12cm blade, inside his sock. The knife was wrapped in layers of plastic bags and sealed with tape. The knife was discovered when a Certis Cisco aviation security officer operating the x-ray machine detected a suspicious sharp object in the right shoe, after the man was instructed to remove his shoes before passing through the X-ray screening lane. The man was subsequently escorted to a search room, where a knife together with a sheath was found concealed in his shoe.

The man will be charged with the offence of carrying an offensive weapon in a public place under Section 6 of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958. The offence carries an imprisonment term of up to three years and not less than six strokes of the cane.

The Police take a serious view of any attempt to bring offensive weapons into public spaces. Travellers are reminded that those found in possession of offensive weapons without lawful purpose will be dealt with firmly in accordance with the law.
