Police Advisory On Resurgence Of Job Scams Involving Online Tasks Relating To Trading Cards

The Police would like to alert members of the public to be vigilant against the resurgence of job scams that involve online tasks associated with Pokémon and other trading cards. Since 25 August 2026, there have been at least 12 reported cases, with total losses amounting to at least $71,000.

In this scam variant, victims are contacted through unsolicited messages or calls and offered remote online jobs involving Pokémon or trading card-related tasks. Victims are directed to fraudulent websites where they are instructed to complete tasks such as opening digital trading card packs or selecting trading cards in exchange for commissions. To complete tasks or unlock higher-value opportunities, victims are required to make cryptocurrency transfers or deposits. Although some victims may initially receive small payouts, they are subsequently asked to make additional payments to complete tasks, clear negative balances, restore their accounts, or withdraw their purported earnings. Victims only realise they have been scammed when they are unable to withdraw their monies from the fraudulent websites.

Members of the public are advised to adopt the following precautionary measures:

  1. ADD - ScamShield app to block scam calls and filter suspicious SMSes.

  2. CHECK – Scam signs with official sources such as the ScamShield Helpline (1799). You can also check the legitimacy of suspicious messages, phone numbers and website links via the ScamShield app or the ScamShield website at www.scamshield.gov.sg. Do NOT accept dubious job offers that offer lucrative returns for minimal effort or require upfront payments.

  3. TELL - Authorities, family, and friends about scams. Report any fraudulent transactions to your bank immediately.

If you are in doubt, call the 24/7 ScamShield Helpline at 1799 to check.  For more information on scams, members of the public can visit www.scamshield.gov.sg. Fighting scams is a community effort. Together, we can ACT Against Scams to keep our community safe.
