Five Persons Arrested For Theft Of More Than S$155,000

The Police have arrested a male Filipino national and four female Filipino nationals, aged between 31 and 57, for their involvement in a case of theft.

On 25 September 2026 at around 1.40pm, the Police were alerted to a case of theft at the underpass near Tang Plaza. Preliminary investigations revealed that a few unknown persons had bumped into a male victim at the foot of an escalator after he had exchanged currency from a nearby money changer. The victim subsequently discovered that his haversack had been unzipped, and cash amounting to about S$155,600 was missing.

Through follow-up investigations and with the aid of images from CCTV and Police cameras, officers from Tanglin Police Division established the identities of the five Filipino nationals involved and arrested them within the same day. Cash amounting to about S$152,800 was recovered and seized as case exhibits.

The five persons will be charged in court on 26 September 2026 with the offence of theft with common intention under Section 379 of the Penal Code 1871 read with Section 34 of the Penal Code 1871. The offence carries an imprisonment term of up to three years, a fine, or both.

The Police will not tolerate such brazen acts of crime and will spare no effort to apprehend such offenders and deal with them in accordance with the law. Members of the public who encounter such cases are advised to remain calm, take note of the physical appearance and distinctive features of the perpetrator, and call for the Police as soon as possible.
