Police have arrested a 35-year-old man for his suspected involvement in series of theft cases committed at several churches islandwide.

2          On 3 January 2015, Police received a report on a case of theft of bag from a church located along West Coast Road. Following that, Police also received several other similar reports relating to theft of bags from churches located in the vicinity of Pasir Panjang Road and Queenstown area. With the aid of CCTV footage and intense follow-up investigations, Police managed to establish the identity of the suspect and arrested him along Geylang Lorong 6 on 13 January 2015. Police have also recovered cash amounting to S$1619 and the apparel worn by him during the commission of the offence. He is also believed to have committed several other cases of theft of bags islandwide.

3          The suspect will be charged in Court on 14 January 2015 for the offence of Theft, which is punishable under Section 379 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. The offence carries a maximum jail term of three years’ imprisonment, or fine, or both.
