The Traffic Police (TP) and Singapore Road Safety Council (SRSC) organised the finals of the 39th Shell Traffic Games on Tuesday, 12 November 2019 at the Road Safety Community Park. The event was supported by Shell Companies in Singapore, Borneo Motors (Singapore), Ministry of Education, Tote Board, Singapore Safety Driving School, Bukit Batok Driving Centre and Comfort DelGro Driving Centre. Mr Amrin Amin, Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Health, graced the event as the guest of honour.

The annual Shell Traffic Games is an inter-school event where primary school children take part in interactive activities and training sessions to educate them on road safety.

After the preliminary rounds of games held between January and September 2019, 16 primary schools with the highest scores were selected to participate in the semi-finals. 12 schools made it to the finals to compete for the Shell Challenge Trophy. Compassvale Primary School emerged as the champion of the 39th Shell Traffic Games.

In partnership with Borneo Motor (Singapore)’s “Start Your Impossible” initiative, Joseph Schooling was featured in three new educational animation videos on road safety for children, which were unveiled at the event. A joint collaboration by SRSC and Nanyang Polytechnic’s School of Interactive & Digital Media, the videos covered road safety advisories such as using designated crossings, bicycle and scooter safety and the importance of being aware of their surroundings. These videos will be used as educational tools during road safety talks and will be made available on the SRSC’s Facebook page and YouTube channel.

As part of their commitment to road safety, Borneo Motors (Singapore) has also supported the revitalisation efforts of the Road Safety Community Park by enhancing the experience at two of the park’s calling points.

Ensuring a safe road environment and culture is a collective effort. It is important to start early by inculcating good RoadSense in children. All road users can also do their part in educating our young road users by being role models and practicing good RoadSense every day.
