The Police are investigating 39-year-old man who is believed to have lodged a false report.
On 7 Jan 2020 at about 4.50am, the Police received a report that the man’s taxi was stolen from a carpark along Bukit Batok Street 21.
The man reported that his taxi was last seen at the said carpark the night before on 6 Jan 2020. During the course of investigations, officers from Jurong Police Division detected several inconsistencies in the man’s account. Preliminary investigations revealed that the man had provided false information to the Police by claiming that his taxi was stolen.
Investigations against the man are ongoing. Anyone convicted for giving any information which he or she knows to be false to a public servant shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to one year, or with a fine which may extend to $5000, or with both.
The Police would like to remind members of the public that police resources could have been put to better use in dealing with real crimes and emergencies than investigating into false reports or false information. Those who lodge false police reports or provide false information will face serious consequences under the law.
