9 Arrested In Enforcement Operation Against Illegal Betting Activities

The Police have arrested eight men and one woman, aged between 38 and 77, during an enforcement operation conducted by Clementi Police Division along Depot Lane on 2 August 2020.

During the operation, all nine individuals were arrested for offences under the Betting Act. Cash amounting to more than $18,000 and gambling paraphernalia were seized during the operation.

Investigations against the nine individuals are ongoing.

Under the Betting Act, the offence of acting as a bookmaker carries a fine of not less than $20,000 and not more than $200,000 and shall also be punished with imprisonment for a term not exceeding 5 years.

The Police will continue to clamp down on criminal activities, including illegal gambling. Those found engaging in illicit activities will be dealt with sternly in accordance with the law.
