Man Arrested For Extortion

The Police have arrested a 20-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of extortion at Lorong 18 Geylang.

On 26 November 2020 at about 3pm, the Police received a report from a victim who claimed that his family member was allegedly extorted of cash amounting to $180 by four men, including the 20-year-old man.

Through follow-up investigations, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identities of the four men, and arrested the 20-year-old man within three hours on the same day. Investigation against the three other men are ongoing.

The man will be charged in court on 28 November 2020 with extortion under Section 384 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. The offence of extortion carries an imprisonment term of not less than two years, and not more than seven years, and with caning.
