Man Arrested Pursuant To Warrant Of Arrest For Absconding From Court Hearing

The Police have arrested a 21-year-old man pursuant to a warrant of arrest issued by the High Court for absconding from a hearing on 22 March 2021. His associate, another 21-year-old man, was also arrested for allegedly harbouring the absconder.

The absconder was charged with sexual assault by penetration and attempted rape, amongst other offences. He was due to plead guilty in the High Court on the morning of 22 March 2021. However, the absconder did not attend the court hearing and became uncontactable. A warrant of arrest was issued by the High Court on the same day. Following an operation mounted by the Police, the absconder was subsequently arrested on 23 March 2021. His associate was also arrested at the same time.

The Police are investigating the absconder for additional offences. The absconder’s associate will be charged in court on 24 March 2021 with harbouring an offender under Section 216 of the Penal Code.

The Police are committed to keeping Singapore safe, and will spare no effort in ensuring that offenders are brought to justice to face the full brunt of the law. The Police would like to remind the public that harbouring an offender is a serious offence punishable with imprisonment and fine.
