Man Arrested For Mischief By Fire With Intent To Destroy A Building

The Police have arrested a 66-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of mischief by fire to a building with intent to destroy a building.

On 11 July 2021 at about 4.05pm, the Police were alerted to a fire that broke out in a unit within an industrial building along Ubi Rd 1. Preliminary investigation suggested that the fire was set intentionally. No one was injured during the incident.

Through extensive ground enquiries and with the aid of images from Police cameras, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on 30 July 2021. Investigations are ongoing.

The offence of mischief by fire with intent to destroy a building under Section 436 of the Penal Code carries a life imprisonment term, or imprisonment for a term which may extend to 10 years, and a fine.
