The Traffic Police (TP) has arrested five men aged between 22 and 33 for their suspected involvement in a case of dangerous driving.

On 27 February 2022, TP was alerted to a video circulating online, showing several vehicles driving dangerously along the Central Expressway. Following investigations, TP officers established the identities of the persons involved and arrested five men during a dedicated enforcement operation on 9 March 2022. During the operation, nine vehicles were seized for further investigations.

Police investigations are ongoing.

Under Section 64(1) of the Road Traffic Act 1961, motorists convicted of dangerous driving may be liable to a fine of up to $5,000, an imprisonment term of up to 12 months, or both. In the case of a second or subsequent conviction, motorists shall be liable to a fine of up to $10,000, an imprisonment term of up to two years, or both. If hurt, grievous hurt or death is caused as a result of dangerous driving, the penalties will be more severe. Offenders may also face disqualification from driving all classes of vehicles.

All motorists are reminded to abide by the traffic rules to keep the roads safe for everyone. The Traffic Police will not hesitate to take firm action against errant motorists who choose to flout traffic laws and endanger the safety of other road users.
