Man Arrested For Criminal Intimidation And Possession Of Offensive Weapon Within Two Hours

The Police have arrested a 77-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of criminal intimidation and possession of offensive weapon.

On 16 March 2022 at about 6.55 pm, the Police received multiple calls of a fight between two men at 29 Bendemeer Road. One of the men was allegedly holding a chopper. Both men had left the scene before Police’s arrival.

Police followed up swiftly to trace the man. With the aid of Police cameras, the Police arrested the chopper-wielding man within two hours of the incident.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the 77-year-old man had allegedly swung a chopper at the other man during the fight, but the chopper did not hit anyone.

The man will be charged in court on 18 March 2022 for the offences of criminal intimidation and possession of offensive weapon, under Section 506 of the Penal Code 1871 and Section 6(1) of the Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapon Act 1958 respectively.

The offence of criminal intimidation under Section 506 of the Penal Code 1871 carries an imprisonment term of up to two years, a fine, or both. The offence of possession of an offensive weapon in a public place, punishable under Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapon Act 1958, carries an imprisonment term of up to three years and caning of not less than six strokes.
