Man Arrested For Suspected Involvement In Fraudulent Registration Of Mobile Lines

The Police have arrested a 57-year-old man for his suspected involvement in fraudulently registering mobile lines.

On 20 April 2022, officers from the Criminal Investigation Department conducted an operation against three handphone shops in the vicinity of Toa Payoh Central, all of which were operated by the suspect. These shops had allegedly registered postpaid SIM cards using fraudulently obtained particulars. The mobile lines of these postpaid SIM cards have been traced to multiple police reports lodged for unlicensed moneylending activities.

Police investigations are ongoing. The offence of unauthorized modification of computer material under Section 5(1) of the Computer Misuse Act 1993 carries a fine not exceeding $10,000, an imprisonment term not exceeding three years, or both.

The Police will spare no effort to clamp down on errant handphone shop dealers who may be indirectly facilitating illegal activities. Those involved in such illegal activities will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
