Two Teenagers Arrested For Theft From Jewellery Shop

The Police have arrested two teenagers, aged 14 and 17, for their suspected involvement in a case of theft in dwelling.

On 23 April 2023 at 5.33 pm, the Police were alerted to a case of theft of gold chains from a jewellery shop along Park Road. Preliminary investigations revealed that the 14-year-old teenager had posed as a customer and asked to see the two gold chains. The 14-year-old teenager then allegedly ran out of the shop with the two gold chains. The shop staff managed to stop him and both gold chains were recovered.

A 17-year-old teenager was later established to have allegedly provided instructions to the 14-year-old teenager on how to carry out the theft. Through ground enquiries, officers from Central Police Division established the identity of the 17-year-old teenager and arrested him along Fernvale Road.

Investigations against the two teenagers are ongoing.

The offence of theft in dwelling with common intention under Section 380 read with Section 34 of the Penal Code 1871 carries an imprisonment term which may extend to seven years and a fine.

The Police have zero tolerance against such brazened acts of crime and will spare no effort to apprehend such offenders and deal with them in accordance with the law.
