The Police will be charging eight men, aged between 24 and 32, in court on 22 August 2023 for their suspected involvement in a case of rioting armed with deadly weapons, reported at 100 Orchard Road on 20 August 2023.

The charges are as follows:

1. A 29-year-old man will be charged with murder under Section 302(1) of the Penal Code 1871. If convicted, the offence of murder carries the death penalty.
   
   
2. Six men, aged between 24 and 32, will be charged with rioting armed with deadly weapons under Section 148 of the Penal Code 1871. If convicted, the offence is punishable with imprisonment for up to 10 years and caning. A 30-year-old man will be charged with voluntarily causing hurt with dangerous weapon under Section 324 of the Penal Code 1871. If convicted, the offence is punishable with imprisonment of up to seven years, a fine, or caning, or any combination of such punishments. 

The Police will seek court orders to remand the eight men for further investigations.

Police investigations against the remaining two men and one woman, aged between 22 and 26, are ongoing.
