Man To Be Charged For Theft Of Motor Vehicle

The Police has arrested a 32-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of theft of motor vehicle,

On 17 July 2024 at about 8.00pm, the Police were alerted to a case of theft of motor vehicle at the multi storey carpark of Block 145A Bedok Reservoir Road. The car, which belonged to a car-sharing services company, was missing from its designated lot and suspected to be used without authorisation. 

Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from Police cameras and closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage, officers from Bedok Police Division traced the stolen motor vehicle and arrested the man on 18 July 2024. The stolen motor vehicle was recovered. Preliminary investigations revealed that the man had allegedly used another user’s details from the mobile application of the car sharing platform to unlock the motor vehicle and stole it.

The man will be charged in court on 22 July 2024 for an offence of theft of a motor vehicle under Section 379A of the Penal Code 1871 and cheating by personation under Section 419 of the Penal Code 1871.

The offence of theft of a motor vehicle carries an imprisonment term of up to seven years and a fine. The offence of cheating by personation carries an imprisonment term of up to five years, or with fine, or with both.
