17 Persons Arrested For Suspected Involvement Invice-Related Activities And Drug Offences

The Police have arrested 12 women and five men, aged between 20 and 50, for their suspected involvement in various offences, including vice-related and illegal drug activities.

On 21 October 2024, officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) conducted raids in the vicinity of Airport Boulevard, Geylang Road, Dover Road, Jurong West Street 64, Minbu Road, Upper Serangoon Road and Upper Thomson Road, resulting in the arrest of 17 persons for their suspected involvement in various offences, including vice-related and illegal drug activities.

During the operation, cash amounting more than $6,100, mobile phones, vice-related paraphernalia, controlled drugs and drug paraphernalia were seized. A 33-year-old man, who allegedly facilitated the operation of an online vice syndicate, will be charged in court on 23 October 2024 under the Women’s Charter 1961. A 38-year-old man and another 50-year-old man are investigated by the Central Narcotics Bureau into the suspected drug-related offences.  Investigations against other persons are ongoing.

The Police will continue to take tough enforcement action against those involved in syndicated vice activities. Under the Women’s Charter 1961,

  1. Any person who knowingly lives wholly or in part on the earnings of the prostitution of another person shall be liable on conviction to imprisonment for a term of up to seven years and shall also be liable to a fine of up to $100,000.

  2. Any person who knowingly solicits, receives or agrees to receive any gratification as an inducement or reward for providing any service, and who by providing that service does or will aid the prostitution of another person (being a woman or girl), shall be liable on conviction to imprisonment for a term of up to seven years and shall also be liable to a fine of up to $100,000.

  3. A person in or outside Singapore who, in the course of business, uses a remote communication service with a Singapore link that offers or facilitates the provision by a woman or girl to another person of sexual services in Singapore in return for payment or reward shall be liable to a fine of up to $100,000 or to imprisonment for a term of up to 5 years or to both.
