Man Arrested Within 15 Hours For Series Of Housebreaking And Theft Cases

The Police have arrested a 53-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a series of housebreaking and theft cases.

On 18 December 2024 at about 5.25am, the Police were alerted to a case of housebreaking and theft at a unit along Lorong 23 Geylang. Three handphones amounting to S$1180 were purportedly stolen. At about 8.10am on the same day, the Police received another report of a case of housebreaking and theft at a unit along Sims Avenue. One laptop, a handphone amounting to about S$1130, and cash amounting to S$30 were reportedly stolen. At about 11am, the Police received yet another report of a case of housebreaking and theft at another unit along Geylang Road. Bags, a handphone amounting to S$1320, and cash amounting to S$300 were purportedly stolen. Based on preliminary findings, all three reports were believed to be linked to the same person.

Through extensive ground enquiries and with the aid of Police cameras and CCTV, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him within 15 hours of the report. Items including the laptop, handphones, bags, and cash amounting to about S$430 were recovered. 

The man will be charged in court on 20 December 2024 with the offence of housebreaking and theft under Section 451 of the Penal Code 1871. The offence carries an imprisonment term of up to 10 years and a fine.
