The Police will be charging a 34-year-old man in court on 27 December 2024 for his suspected involvement in a case of rash act causing grievous hurt.
On 22 October 2024 at 10.57am, the Police received a report that the man, who was cycling on his bicycle, had collided into a female jogger. Investigations revealed that the man had been cycling recklessly along East Coast Park, resulting in the collision. The female jogger sustained a head injury and laceration on her right elbow as a result and was conveyed conscious to the hospital.
The man will be charged with the offence of rash act causing grievous hurt under Section 338(a) of the Penal Code 1871. The offence carries an imprisonment term of up to four years, a fine or both.
On 17 and 18 December 2024, Bedok Police Division coordinated with Land Transport Authority (LTA) to conduct an enforcement operation against errant riders around Tampines Mall and Century Square. Six men, aged between 16 and 43, were booked for 12 offences under the Active Mobility Act 2017 and Road Traffic Act 1961. Violations included errant riding of power-assisted bicycle (PAB) and motorcycles on footpath, as well as vehicle modification offences. One non-compliant PAB was also impounded during the operation.
The Police have been working closely with LTA to enforce against errant and reckless active mobility device users and motorists endangering pedestrians on paths and roads. The Police and LTA have zero tolerance against such rash acts that endanger the lives or safety of others and will not hesitate to take stern action against errant and reckless riders in accordance with the law.
