Woman Arrested For Series Of Shop Theft At Changi Airport

The Police have arrested a 62-year-old female Indian national for her suspected involvement in a series of shop theft in the transit area of Changi Airport.

On 23 December 2024, the Police were alerted to a series of shop theft after perfumes and souvenir accessories amounting to about $1,121.60 were discovered missing from four retail outlets located in the transit area of Changi Airport.

The items were discovered missing after a staff from one of the stores observed a woman behaving suspiciously by entering and exiting the store without purchasing any item. The store’s loss prevention officer then reported the matter to the Police after confirming that items were missing from the store.

Officers from the Airport Police Division responded swiftly and detained the woman before she could board her flight out of Singapore. Preliminary investigations revealed that she entered four different stores and had allegedly stolen various items by concealing them in her hand carry bag before exiting the stores without paying.

The woman will be charged in court on 23 January 2025 with the offence of theft in dwelling under Section 380 of the Penal Code, 1871. The offence of theft in dwelling carries an imprisonment term which may extend to seven years, and a fine.

The Police take a serious view of shop theft cases and offenders will be dealt with firmly in accordance with the law. The Police will continue to work closely with stakeholders and the community to prevent and deter cases of shop theft.
