The Police have arrested a 22-year-old woman and three men, aged 22 and 30, for their suspected involvement in three separate cases of loanshark harassments.
In the first case, on 15 February 2025 at about 12.00 pm, the Police were alerted to a case of loanshark harassment at a residential unit along Edgefield Plains, where the gate of the residential unit was secured with a bicycle lock and a debtor note was left behind.
Through follow-up investigations and with the aid of images from the Police cameras and CCTVs, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division established the identity of the 22-year-old woman and was arrested on 19 February 2025. The woman is believed to be involved in other similar cases of loanshark harassment.
In the second case, on 19 February 2025 at about 8.50 pm, the Police were alerted to a case of loanshark harassment at a residential unit along Hougang Avenue 3, where the main door of a residential unit was splashed with red paint and a debtor note left behind.
Through follow-up investigations and with the aid of images from the Police cameras and CCTVs, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division established the identities of the two men, aged 22 and 23. Both men were arrested on 19 February 2025. The duo are believed to be involved in other similar cases of loanshark harassment.
In the third case, on 20 February 2025 at about 8.20 am, the Police were alerted to a case of loanshark harassment at a residential unit along Edgefield Plains, where a debtor note was left behind.
Through follow-up investigations and with the aid of images from the Police cameras and CCTVs, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division established the identity of the 30-year-old man and arrested him on the same day. He is also believed to be involved in other similar cases of loanshark harassment.
The woman and the three men will be charged in court on 21 February 2025 under the Moneylenders Act 2008. For first-time offenders, the offence of loanshark harassment carries a fine between $5,000 and $50,000, with imprisonment of up to five years, and caning of up to six strokes.
The Police have zero tolerance for loanshark harassment activities. Those who deliberately vandalise properties, cause annoyance or disrupt public safety, peace and security, will be dealt with severely in accordance with the law.
Members of the public are advised to stay away from loansharks and not to work with or assist them in any way. The Public can call ‘999’ if they suspect or know anyone of loansharking activities.
