The Police have arrested a 39-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a hacking attempt on RedeemSG, which is the Government’s digital voucher system.
On 28 July 2025, the RedeemSG team lodged a police report on the multiple suspicious attempts to access voucher links on the RedeemSG portal. The suspicious attempts were unsuccessful and no vouchers were compromised.
Through follow-up investigations, officers from the Cybercrime Command under the Criminal Investigation Department swiftly established the identity of the man within a day of the report lodged. He was subsequently arrested on 29 July 2025. The laptop which was used in commission of the offence was seized for further investigations. The man is currently being investigated for the offence of Attempted Unauthorised Access to Computer Material under Section 3(1) read with Section 12 of the Computer Misuse Act 1993. The offence carries an imprisonment term which may extend to two years, or with fine not exceeding $5,000, or with both. Investigations are ongoing.
The Police take a serious view of any unauthorised access to Government systems. Anyone found to be involved in such activities will be dealt with firmly in accordance with the law.
