Eight men, aged between 23 and 53, will be charged in court on 17 September 2025 for driving a motor vehicle whilst under disqualification.
The details of the cases are as follows:
- On 12 August 2025, a 45-year-old man was stopped by a police officer along Sengkang East Way. He was found to be driving a car whilst under disqualification. The man was previously convicted in court for driving under the influence of alcohol in September 2023 and was sentenced to a fine and disqualification from holding a driving licence for all classes for 24 months. He will be charged with driving a motor vehicle whilst under disqualification under Section 43(4)(a) of the Road Traffic Act 1961 and using a motor vehicle without insurance coverage under Section 3(1) of the Motor Vehicles (Third-Party Risks and Compensation) Act 1960.
- On 6 August 2025, a 32-year-old man was stopped for a check by an Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officer at Woodlands Checkpoint. He was found to be driving the car whilst under disqualification. The man was previously convicted in court for driving under the influence of alcohol in August 2024 and was sentenced to a fine and disqualification from holding a driving licence for all classes for a period of 24 months. He will be charged with driving a motor vehicle whilst under disqualification under Section 43(4)(a) of the Road Traffic Act 1961 and using a motor vehicle without insurance coverage under Section 3(1) of the Motor Vehicles (Third-Party Risks and Compensation) Act 1960.
- On 30 July 2025, a 34-year-old man was stopped for a check by an ICA officer at Woodlands Checkpoint. He was found to be driving a car whilst under disqualification, with a passenger in the car. The man was previously convicted in court twice for driving under the influence of alcohol in March 2019 and July 2023, and was last sentenced to a fine, eight weeks’ imprisonment, and disqualification from holding a driving licence for all classes for seven years. He will be charged with driving a motor vehicle whilst under disqualification under Section 43(4)(a) of the Road Traffic Act 1961 and using a motor vehicle without insurance coverage under Section 3(1) of the Motor Vehicles (Third-Party Risks and Compensation) Act 1960.
- On 28 July 2025, a 41-year-old male car driver was stopped by a police officer along Henderson Road for not wearing a seat belt. He was found to be driving the car whilst under disqualification. The man was previously convicted in court for driving without due care and attention causing grievous hurt in November 2024, and was sentenced to four months’ imprisonment, and disqualification from holding a driving licence for all classes for five years. He will be charged with driving a motor vehicle whilst under disqualification under Section 43(4)(a) of the Road Traffic Act 1961, using a motor vehicle without insurance coverage under Section 3(1) of the Motor Vehicles (Third-Party Risks and Compensation) Act 1960 and failing to wear a body restraining seat belt under Rule (4)(1) of Road Traffic (Motor Vehicles, Wearing Of Seat Belts) Rules 2011.
- On 23 July 2025, a 23-year-old man was stopped for a check by an ICA officer at Tuas Checkpoint. He was found to be driving a car whilst under disqualification. The man was previously convicted in court for two counts of driving without licence in December 2023 and was sentenced to three weeks’ imprisonment and disqualification from holding a driving licence for all classes for 24 months. He will be charged with driving a motor vehicle whilst under disqualification under Section 43(4)(a) of the Road Traffic Act 1961 and using a motor vehicle without insurance coverage under Section 3(1) of the Motor Vehicles (Third-Party Risks and Compensation) Act 1960.
- On 20 May 2025, a 33-year-old male van driver was stopped for a check by a police officer along Lorong 35 Geylang. He was found to be driving the van whilst under disqualification, with a passenger in the van. The man had also taken the vehicle without the consent of the owner. The man was previously convicted in court for use of mobile communication in February 2025 and was sentenced to fine and disqualification from holding a driving licence for all classes for six months. He will be charged with driving a motor vehicle whilst under disqualification under Section 43(4)(a) of the Road Traffic Act 1961, using a motor vehicle without insurance coverage under Section 3(1) of the Motor Vehicles (Third-Party Risks and Compensation) Act 1960 and driving away a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent under Section 96(1) of the Road Traffic Act 1961.
- On 8 May 2025, a 53-year-old man was stopped for a check by an ICA officer at Tuas Checkpoint. He was found to be driving a car whilst under disqualification. The man was previously convicted in court for driving under the influence of alcohol in February 2025 and was sentenced to a fine and disqualification from holding a driving licence for all classes for 24 months. He will be charged with driving a motor vehicle whilst under disqualification under Section 43(4)(a) of the Road Traffic Act 1961 and using a motor vehicle without insurance coverage under Section 3(1) of the Motor Vehicles (Third-Party Risks and Compensation) Act 1960.
- On 3 March 2025, a 31-year-old male car driver was stopped for a check by a police officer along Kranji Expressway. He was found to be driving the car whilst under disqualification and with an expired road tax. The driver was previously convicted in court for driving under influence and driving without due care and attention in 2024, and was sentenced to a fine and disqualification from holding a driving licence for all classes for 30 months. He will be charged with driving a motor vehicle whilst under disqualification under Section 43(4)(a) of the Road Traffic Act 1961, using a motor vehicle without insurance coverage under Section 3(1) of the Motor Vehicles (Third-Party Risks and Compensation) Act 1960, using a motor vehicle with an expired road tax under Section 29(1) of the Road Traffic Act 1961 and failing to surrender driving licence whilst under disqualification under Section 44(3) read with Section 131(1)(a).
The punishment for the offences are as follows:
- The offence of driving whilst under disqualification under Section 43(4) of the Road Traffic Act 1961 carries a fine of up to $10,000, an imprisonment for a term of up to three years, or both. Repeat offenders are liable to a fine of up to $20,000, or a jail term of up to six years, or both.
- The offence of using a motor vehicle without insurance coverage under Section 3(1) of the Motor Vehicles (Third-Party Risks and Compensation) Act 1960 carries a fine of up to $1,000, an imprisonment for a term of up to three months, or both.
- The offence of driving away any motor vehicle without the owner’s consent under Section 96(1) of the Road Traffic Act 1961 carries a fine of up to $1000, or an imprisonment for a term of up to three months.
- The offence of using a vehicle without a valid road tax under Section 29(1) of the Road Traffic Act 1961 carries a fine of up to $2000.
- The offence of failing to wear a body restraining seat belt under Rule (4)(1) of Road Traffic (Motor Vehicles, Wearing of Seat Belts) Rules 2011 carries a fine of up to $1000, or an imprisonment for a term of up to three months.
- The Traffic Police takes a serious view of individuals who drive without a valid driving licence and insurance coverage. Such reckless and irresponsible acts endanger the safety of the driver and that of other road users. The Traffic Police will continue to step up on its enforcement efforts and take firm action against those who disregard the law.
