Eight men, aged between 25 and 74, and one woman aged 71, will be charged in court on 25 March 2026 with the offence of driving without reasonable consideration causing grievous hurt. The accidents resulted in injuries to 11 victims: one motorist who was struck outside his broken-down car, two cyclists, six motorcyclists and two motorcycle pillion riders.
The details of the cases are as follows:
- On 15 January 2026, a 31-year-old male car driver was driving along Bukit Timah Expressway towards Woodlands Checkpoint when he collided with a motorcycle while making a lane change to the right. The motorcyclist sustained grievous injuries, including lacerations and ankle dislocation. The driver will be charged with the offence of driving without reasonable consideration causing grievous hurt under Section 65(3) of the Road Traffic Act 1961.
- On 4 August 2025, a 71-year-old female car driver was driving along Sims Avenue, when she collided with a cyclist while making a left turn. The cyclist sustained a fractured wrist. The driver will be charged with the offence of driving without reasonable consideration causing grievous hurt under Section 65(3) of the Road Traffic Act 1961.
- On 15 June 2025, a 51-year-old male car driver was driving along Fernvale Link, when he collided with a cyclist while making a right turn. The cyclist sustained a fractured spine. The driver will be charged with the offence of driving without reasonable consideration causing grievous hurt under Section 65(3) of the Road Traffic Act 1961.
- On 4 June 2025, a 55-year-old male car driver was driving out of a condominium along Yishun Avenue 6, when he collided with a motorcycle while making a right turn. The motorcyclist sustained minor injuries while his pillion rider sustained a fractured foot. The driver will be charged with the offences of driving without reasonable consideration causing grievous hurt under Section 65(3) of the Road Traffic Act 1961 and with driving without reasonable consideration causing hurt under Section 65(4) of the Road Traffic Act 1961.
- On 19 April 2025, a 60-year-old male trailer driver was driving along Jalan Buroh when he collided with a motorcycle. The motorcyclist sustained a fractured toe and bruises. The driver will be charged with the offence of driving without due care and attention causing grievous hurt under Section 65(3) of the Road Traffic Act 1961.
- On 4 April 2025, a 74-year-old male car driver was driving along Sengkang West Way when he collided with a motorcycle while making a right turn after crossing double white lines, which prohibit motorists from changing lanes. The motorcyclist sustained a fractured forearm. The driver will be charged with the offence of driving without reasonable consideration causing grievous hurt under Section 65(3) of the Road Traffic Act 1961.
- On 4 March 2025, a 25-year-old male car driver was driving along Upper Thomson Road, when he collided with a motorcycle while changing lanes. The motorcyclist sustained fractured ribs. The driver will be charged with the offence of driving without reasonable consideration causing grievous hurt under Section 65(3) of the Road Traffic Act 1961.
- On 5 November 2024, a 66-year-old male taxi driver was driving along Tuas Crescent, when he collided with a motorcycle while making a right turn at a T-junction without checking for oncoming traffic. The motorcyclist sustained head injuries, a fractured wrist and an open wound on his hand while his pillion rider sustained multiple spinal fractures, brain bleeding and a fractured thumb. The driver will be charged with the offence of driving without reasonable consideration causing grievous hurt under Section 65(3) of the Road Traffic Act 1961.
- On 9 April 2024, a 39-year-old male lorry driver was driving along Lornie Highway, when he collided with a stationary car. The driver of the stationary car had exited his broken-down vehicle and was opening his boot when he was struck, sustaining grievous injuries including fractures to his skull, face, spine, ribs and foot. He also sustained damage to his brain and kidneys, with his left kidney beyond salvage. The driver will be charged with the offence of driving without due care and attention causing grievous hurt under Section 65(3) of the Road Traffic Act 1961.
The offence of driving without due care or reasonable consideration causing grievous hurt under Section 65(3) of the Road Traffic Act 1961 carries a fine of up to $5,000, a jail term of up to two years, or both. In the case of a second or subsequent conviction, motorists are liable to a fine of up to $10,000, a jail term of up to four years, or both. Offenders also face disqualification from driving all classes of vehicles.
The offence of driving without due care or reasonable consideration causing hurt under Section 65(4) of the Road Traffic Act 1961 carries a fine of up to $2,500, a jail term of up to 12 months, or both. In the case of a second or subsequent conviction, the offence carries a fine of up to $5,000, a jail term of up to two years, or both. Offenders may face disqualification from driving all classes of vehicles.
The Traffic Police takes a serious view of those who drive in a manner that endangers their safety and that of other road users. All motorists are urged to abide by traffic laws to keep our roads safe for everyone. The Traffic Police will continue to take firm action against errant motorists.
