The enhanced Road Safety Programme for Pre-Schoolers was launched on Saturday, 30 July 2016 at the Jurong Spring Community Club. About 90 PAP Community Foundation (PCF) kindergarten students, teachers and parents attended the event to learn about good road safety practices. Mr Desmond Lee, Senior Minister of State (SMS) for Ministry of Home Affairs & Ministry of National Development was the Guest-of-Honour.
This enhanced Road Safety Programme for Pre-Schoolers marks a new partnership between AIG Asia Pacific Insurance Pte. Ltd. (AIG Singapore) and the Traffic Police (TP), and builds on the original programme first launched by AIG Singapore in 2015. The enhanced programme aims to educate 1,700 pre-schoolers on road safety. Through a 45-minute experiential workshop, the pre-schoolers will learn about common traffic signs and get to practise kerb drills with TP officers. AIG Singapore’s business partner, Cycle & Carriage Industries Pte Ltd, has also come on board as a sponsor for the road safety programme.
Head of Personal Insurance (Southeast Asia), AIG Singapore, Mr Ganeswaran Subramaniam, said, “AIG Singapore is committed to creating safer communities in Singapore and is delighted to expand our road safety programme for pre-schoolers this year with the help of the TP. We believe that cultivating good road safety habits from a young age can help reduce road traffic incidents, as the children learn more about the importance of being safe road users. Through our programme, we hope that they can influence their parents to practise safer driving behaviour.”
Commander TP, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police (SAC) Sam Tee, said, “We are happy to work with AIG Singapore to raise awareness of road safety amongst pre-schoolers and inculcate positive habits from a young age. This includes teaching the pre-schoolers how to identify road signs and look out for blind spots around heavy vehicles. Young children are a vulnerable group as they may not fully appreciate the road risks. Teaching them road safety at an early age will help inculcate a strong sense of road safety awareness which will stay with them for life.”
Through this programme, TP and AIG Singapore hope to encourage everyone to play their part by adhering to traffic rules and adopting safe driving habits. Let’s stay safe on the roads.
