The Police have arrested a 26-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a series of theft from motor vehicles.

Between 31 March and 3 May 2019, the Police received several reports of theft of cash cards and valuables from vehicles that were parked at various carparks in Choa Chu Kang.

Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from closed-circuit television cameras, officers from Jurong Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on 11 May 2019. Cash cards and other case exhibits were seized.

The man will be charged in court on 13 May 2019 with theft under Section 379 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. If convicted, he faces an imprisonment term which may extend to 3 years, or with fine, or both.

Members of the public are advised to safeguard their belongings and be vigilant of their surroundings when they park their vehicles. They are advised to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  • Park in well-lit areas;
  • Install an in-car camera system and ensure it is well-maintained;
  • Install an anti-theft alarm system;
  • Remove cash cards, keys and other valuables, such as laptops and mobile phones before leaving the vehicle; and
  • Lock all vehicle doors and wind up all windows when leaving the vehicle, even if it is for a short while.
