The Police have arrested a 26-year-old female Singaporean for her suspected involvement in abandoning her newborn baby.

On 7 January 2020 at 9.12am, the Police were alerted that a newborn baby boy had been found abandoned inside a rubbish chute located at Blk 534 Bedok North Street 3.  Through extensive ground investigations and with the aid of images from Police cameras and other CCTV footage provided by residents and businesses in the neighbourhood, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identity of the woman, who is believed to be the mother of the child. She was arrested on 13 February 2020.  The Police are looking into the identity of the child’s father.

The woman will be charged in court with exposure and abandonment of a child under 12 years old, under Section 317 of the Penal Code, on 15 February 2020. Anyone convicted of this offence is liable for an imprisonment term of up to seven years, or a fine, or both.

Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police Julius Lim, Commander of Bedok Police Division, said, “The Police officers involved in this case worked tirelessly to identify the offender, and spared no effort in the pursuit of justice.”
