The Police have arrested a 17-year-old male teenager for his suspected involvement in cheating a delivery company, Food Panda, of more than $14, 000.
On 21 August 2020, the Police received a report from the delivery company that was deceived into believing that their riders had failed to deliver a customer’s delivery orders. As a result, the company approved the customer’s fraudulent refund claims.
Through investigations, officers from Jurong Police Division established the identity of the teenager and arrested him on 24 August 2020. Preliminary investigations revealed that he had made $14,000 worth of fraudulent refund claims on his delivery orders which included cooked food, groceries and liquor.
The teenager will be charged in court on 25 August 2020 with cheating under section 420 of the Penal Code, which is punishable with an imprisonment term of up to 10 years, and a fine.
The Police take a serious view against any person who may be involved in fraud activities and the perpetrators will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
