Man To Be Charged For Importation Of 154 Replica Guns Without A Permit

The Police will be charging a 44-year-old man for his suspected involvement in the importation of 154 replica guns into Singapore without a permit.

On 11 May 2023, the Police received information relating to the sales of replica guns on an e-commerce platform.

Through follow-up investigations, officers from the Criminal Investigation Department and Central Police Division established the identity of the seller and raided his residence located along Race Course Lane on 26 May 2023. A total of 154 replica guns and related accessories were seized during the raid.

The man will be charged in court on 6 March 2025 with the offence under Regulation 3(1)(a) read with Regulation 45 of the Regulation of Imports and Exports Regulations. Anyone who is found guilty of this offence, on the first conviction, be liable to a fine not exceeding $100,000 or three times the value of the goods in respect of the committed offence, whichever is greater, or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years or to both; and on the second or subsequent conviction, be liable to a fine not exceeding $200,000 or four times the value of the goods in respect of the committed offence, whichever is greater, or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding three years or to both.

The Police would like to inform members of the public that under the Regulation of Imports and Exports Regulations, Police approval is required for the importation of replica guns. For public safety reasons, Police will not approve the import of any toy or replica guns that bear close resemblance to actual firearms. The Police would like to advise members of the public that carrying items such as replica guns in public places may cause unnecessary alarm and may also be deemed as offensive weapons depending on circumstances in which they are found. If the person carrying the item is unable to provide a reasonable explanation, the person may also be liable for offences under the Protection from Harassment Act 2014 and/or the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958.
