Loanshark Harasser Arrested

The Police have arrested a 48-year-old man for his suspected involvement in loansharking activities.

 

On 4 October 2017, the Police received a report of loanshark harassment where debtor notes were pasted on the door and pillar of a residential unit at Jurong West. Through extensive ground enquiries and with the aid images from Police Cameras (POLCAMs), officers from Jurong Police Division identified and arrested the suspect at Bedok Reservoir Road on 10 October 2017. Preliminary investigations revealed that the man is believed to have carried out similar acts of harassment at Bedok and Tampines. A mobile phone, apparels, a pair of shoes, a pen, a roll of double-sided tape and a stack of papers were seized as case exhibits.

 

The man will be charged in Court on 12 October 2017 under the Moneylenders Act 2010 (Revised Edition). Under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010), first time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be fined not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory imprisonment of up to 5 years and mandatory caning of up to 6 strokes.
