Man Arrested For Housebreaking By Night

The Police have arrested a 52-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of housebreaking by night.

On 5 September 2019 at about 4.15 am, the Police were alerted to a case of housebreaking at a residential unit along Jurong West Street 93. Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from police cameras, officers from Jurong Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on the same day along Pioneer Road North.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the man is suspected to be involved in another case of housebreaking and theft by night. Two mobile phones and five EZ-Link cards were recovered and seized as case exhibits. Investigations are ongoing.

The man will be charged in court on 7 September 2019 with housebreaking by night. If convicted, he shall be liable with an imprisonment for a term which may extend to 5 years, and shall also be liable to fine; and if the offence intended to be committed is theft, the term of the imprisonment shall be not less than 2 years and not more than 14 years.

The Police would like to advise all property owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  • Secure all doors, windows and other openings with good quality grilles and close-shackled padlocks when leaving your premises unattended, even for a short while;
  • Refrain from keeping large sums of cash in any premises; and
  • Install a burglar alarm, motion sensor light and/or close circuit surveillance camera to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and in good working condition.
