Motorcycle (Class 2B/2A/2)

Legal Requirement

Under the Road Traffic Act, you have to be at least 18 years of age before you can apply for a licence to ride a motorcycle.

To apply for a Class 2A Qualified Licence, you must be in possession of a Class 2B Qualified Licence for at least one year.

To apply for a Class 2 Qualified Licence, you must be in possession of a Class 2A Qualified Licence for at least one year.

Basic Theory Test (BTT)

The test is designed to test your knowledge of the rules and regulations of the road, the traffic signs and signals. Upon passing the BTT, you can apply for a Provisional Driving Licence (PDL) which will allow you to practise riding in the driving circuit and on the public roads under the supervision of a driving school instructor. The first step towards passing the BTT is to understand the contents under the syllabus of the Basic Theory of Driving. If you have enrolled with the driving centre, they will conduct the theory lessons. You can book a BTT date at the following centres:

Enrol For Riding Theory Classes

You are required to enrol as a student in one of the above stated driving centres. This is unlike learning to drive a motorcar where an individual can choose to learn from a private instructor or from a driving centre.

How to apply for Riding Theory Test (RTT)

Unlike Basic and Final Theory Driving Tests where individuals can book and sit for the test without enrolling as a student in any of the three driving centres, you can only apply and sit for the Riding Theory Test (RTT) if you satisfy the following conditions :

  • You must be a student with one of the Driving Centres as stated above.
  • You must have attended the prescribed theory lessons and have passed the evaluation test for by the respective driving centres.
  • You must have passed the Part 1 Training Course (Circuit Assessment Test) conducted by the driving centre.

Practical Riding Lessons

Upon passing the Basic Theory Test (BTT) and having obtained the Provisional Driving Licence (PDL), you will receive the necessary trainings by the driving centre to learn riding a motorcycle in the circuits as well as on public roads. The motorcycle used for learning should display two 18cm square 'L' plates, in a conspicuous position on both the front and back of your motorcycle.

You will have to pass the Riding Evaluation Test conducted by the driving centre before you are allowed to undergo the Practical Riding Test.

Enroll For Riding Classes (Class 2A/2)

If you already own a Class 2B or Class 2A Licence and wish to obtain a Class 2A or Class 2 respectively, you have to enrol as a student for the riding classes at one of the 3 Driving Centres as stated below:

The Practical Riding Test

After passing the Riding Evaluation Test, you can apply for the Practical Riding Test. You need to be able to ride safely and competently in order to pass the test.

If you are successful in passing the Practical Riding Test conducted by Traffic Police, you will be issued with the respective Class 2 Qualified Licence that you enrolled for. You will be on probation for a period of 1 year from the grant date of your licence.
