Police have arrested a 35 year-old man at Woodlands Checkpoint for suspected loanshark harassments at HDB estates.

 

2          Between 1 January 2015 and 7 February 2015, Police received several reports of loanshark harassment writings outside residential units at various estates islandwide. Acting on the reports, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on 7 February 2015. Upon his arrest, surgical masks and markers pens were seized as case exhibits.

 

3     The suspect will be charged in Court on 9 February 2015 for loanshark harassment. Under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010), first-time offenders found guilty of acting on behalf of an unlicensed moneylender, committing or attempting to commit any acts of harassment shall be punished with imprisonment for a term not exceeding 5 years, a fine of not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000, and shall also be liable to caning of not less than 3 and not more than 6 strokes.
