Police have arrested six men, aged between 13 and 23, for their suspected involvement in a series of motor vehicle theft cases. These cases were reported in Jurong West and Ang Mo Kio between 13 and 20 February 2015.

 

2          Officers from Jurong and Clementi Police Division conducted investigations and eventually recovered two of the vehicles, which were reported stolen, at Tah Ching Road on 25 February 2015. Through follow up investigations, the identities of the six suspects were established, resulting in their arrest on 25 February 2015 at about 9.30pm in Taman Jurong.

 

3          All six suspects will be charged in Court on 27 February 2015 for the offence of Theft of Motor Vehicle with common intention under Section 379A read with Section 34 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224.  If convicted, each faces a maximum jail term of 7 years and shall also be liable to a fine.

 

4          Police would like to advise motor vehicle owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  • Install an anti-theft alarm system;

  • Lock all vehicle doors and wind up all windows when vehicle is parked;

  • Do not leave the vehicle key in the ignition switch even if it is for a short while;

  • Park your vehicle in well-lit areas; and

  • Look around the vicinity for suspicious characters before leaving. If you see any suspicious characters, take note of their appearance, attire, height, or any other distinctive physical features and inform the Police for assistance. Do not confront them.
