Clementi Neighbourhood Police Centre (NPC), Delta Citizenry and Youth Community Outreach Patrol (Youth COP) raised awareness and educated the community on scams through a light-hearted skit and flashmob-styled performance this morning, 28 February 2015. The event was held at Clementi Central for the Delta Citizenry Community Engagement Day 2015.
2 The skit, which featured popular scam tactics targeting youths, was performed for the first time by the Youth COP skit team. This was followed by a flashmob-styled performance by about 50 members of the Delta Citizenry and Youth COP with Clementi NPC officers. Choreographed by Clementi NPC officers, the performance highlighted the anonymous nature of scammers and showcased how the community can come together to fight the unscrupulous tactics of these criminals.
3 The Guest-of-Honour for the event, Mr Arthur Fong, Member of Parliament for West Coast GRC and Adviser to Clementi Grassroots Organisations, joined the Police and residents in making a firm stand against scams.
4 Commanding Officer of Clementi NPC, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Lee Huan Ting, said “Cheating cases have been on the rise and as more victims fall prey to the creative tactics of scammers, Police have to explore alternative ways to reach out to the community. We hope that through this light-hearted skit and dance performance, the public can arm themselves with the requisite knowledge to prevent themselves from becoming victims of scams."
5 To reinforce the scam prevention messages, members from the Delta Citizenry and Youth COP together with Clementi NPC officers engaged and shared the latest scam prevention tactics with the shop-owners and members of public in Clementi Central.
