Police have arrested a total of 24 suspects, 6 men and 18 women aged between 19 and 64, for their suspected involvement in vice-related activities.

On 3 March 2015, officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) conducted island-wide operations at multiple locations in Singapore including Geylang, Hougang, Bishan and Jurong West, resulting in the arrests. Cash amounting to about S$270,000, as well as an array of computers, and handphones were seized. Preliminary investigations revealed that the syndicate had advertised sexual services online.

Four of the suspects, a 21-year-old woman and three men aged between 27 and 51, will be charged in Court on 5 March 2015 for offences under the Women’s Charter. Investigations against the remaining suspects are ongoing.

Under the Woman’s Charter, Chapter 353, any person who knowingly lives wholly or in part on the earnings of the prostitution of another person shall be liable on conviction to imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years and shall also be liable to a fine not exceeding S$10,000.

Head of the Specialised Crime Branch of the Criminal Investigation Department, Superintendent of Police Lawrence Eng said, “Online vice operators who assume that they can hide through the anonymity offered by the Internet to commit criminal offences should think twice. We will find them and prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law.”
