Police have arrested a 47-year-old man who is believed to be involved in a series of housebreaking in Chinatown.

 

         On 2 April 2015 at about 11.35am, Police were alerted to a case of a housebreaking at a restaurant along Smith Street. The owner of restaurant discovered the cash register was prised opened and cash amounting to $265 was missing. 

 

        Upon receiving the information, officers from the Central Police Division conducted extensive ground enquiries to establish the identity of the suspect. With the aid of CCTV footage and following an operation, the officers arrested him along Temple Street on the same day at about 4.30pm. Cash amounting to $28, believed to be part of the stolen money, was seized from the suspect. Preliminary investigations revealed that he is believed to be involved in at least four other cases of Housebreaking and Theft in Dwelling cases in Chinatown.

 

         The suspect will be charged in Court on 4 April 2015 for the offence of Housebreaking and Theft by Day under Section 454 of the Penal Code, which carries an imprisonment term of up to 10 years.
