Police have arrested a 35-year-old man for suspected dangerous driving along Lorong 14 Geylang on 21 April 2015 at about 11.50pm.

 

2          Officers from the Traffic Police were conducting checks along Lorong 14 Geylang towards Guillemard Road when a car approached the road block point in a slow but unsteady manner. Officers decided to stop the car to conduct a check on the driver. However, the driver surged his car forward and sped through the road block. The officers immediately gave chase and exercised due care during the pursuit.

 

3          During the pursuit, the driver abandoned his car along Lorong 34 Geylang and fled on foot. He was subsequently arrested for the offence of Dangerous Driving punishable under Section 64 (1) of the Road Traffic Act, Chapter 276 after a short chase.

 

4          The Traffic Police are also initiating investigations for the offences of Failing to stop when ordered by a Police Officer, Driving Whilst under Disqualification, Using Motor Vehicle without Insurance Coverage and Driving without Owner’s Consent against the driver.

 

5          Police investigations are ongoing. Drivers caught for dangerous driving, upon conviction, will lose their driving licences. In addition, first-time offenders may be punished with a fine not exceeding $3,000, or imprisonment not exceeding 12 months, or both. Repeat offenders may be punished with a fine not exceeding $5,000 or imprisonment not exceeding 2 years, or both.
